What happens if I move away during my time at University?
Moving from one New Zealand University to another won't affect your future payments - provided you continue to study a relevant degree, achieve satisfactory grades each year and develop a good relationship with PwC. Your entire degree must be undertaken at tertiary institutions within New Zealand.
Do I have to work for PwC once I finish my degree?
As part of this programme you will be required to make yourself available to work for PwC during holidays, subject to business requirements. This is usually at the end of your third year of study assuming a four year degree. Timing may vary for degrees undertaken longer than four years.
Winners are under no obligation to work for us on completion of study, but we hope the relationships developed, the experience gained and the fun had, will make us the employer of choice.
What sort of grades do I have to achieve to receive further payments?
To be eligible for ongoing payments, we require you to pass all papers studied and provide your academic transcript to us each year. If for any reason you fail a paper or number of papers, PwC reserves the right to withhold further payments. Hopefully this will be an added incentive to do your very best, and make the most of your learning opportunities!
Can I work for you during University holidays?
As part of this programme we require scholarship winners to make themselves available for holiday work from the end of the third year of their degree (or penultimate year of study for degrees longer than four years). Our ability to provide work will depend on our work flow at that particular time. This valuable work experience will be as part of our Summer Intern Programme. It will give you the opportunity to find out more about our profession and people, while earning a competitive salary at the same time.
If I did work for you, what would I be doing?
We’ll provide you with an opportunity to experience the same type of work you would be performing as a graduate with us, and our goal would be to make this learning experience fun and enjoyable. You’ll also be provided with on the job training.
What happens once I have been informed I've won the Scholarship?
Once our winners have been announced, we will present the Scholarship to you at your school assembly or prizegiving and/or invite you along with other fellow winners from your region to a presentation evening at your nearest PwC office.
From the start of the University year, we’ll then keep in contact with you on a regular basis, and provide you with a ‘buddy' or mentor. This person will be someone who has been working with us for a year or two. They can help with any queries and keep you up to date with what is happening. They will also help you settle in when you work for us during your holidays.
What sorts of career opportunities exist within PwC?
Each year we take a large number of graduates across the country into our various business areas.
Once I have submitted my application form, what does the process entail?
All applications from students nominated by their school will be reviewed and shortlisted. Shortlisted students will be invited to PwC for an interview. It will be an opportunity for you to find out more about PwC, tell us about your aspirations, and look around our offices. If you do not make the interview short list you will be advised in writing.
Why is PwC undertaking this scholarship programme?
The PwC Scholarship has been created to give you the best start possible. The programme provides young talent with financial and mentoring support during university, and is a great opportunity to build relationships and create new networks.
We place a very high value on education and as part of this commitment we’ve created our PwC Scholarship Programme to help tomorrow’s business leaders achieve their potential during their academic studies. At the same time we hope to give you all the information you might need to make decisions about a future business career and the type of employer you would like to work for.
Am I guaranteed a graduate position at PwC if I win this scholarship?
While there are no guarantees on work placement, we certainly hope a high number of our scholarship winners will end up working for us.
Why isn’t my school part of the PwC Scholarship programme?
The schools under the Firm Scholarship programme for 2011 were selected based on existing relationships with PwC. The PwC Scholarship programme is just one of our initiatives in education - we also have relationships with schools through our PwC Foundation, so check with your Principle to see if your school participates in this programme.
I am a Year 12 student, but intending to go to university next year. Am I eligible for a PwC Scholarship?
Yes you are, provided you are intending to study a relevant degree and meet all other programme criteria.
Other important information
The number of scholarships awarded in a given year will depend on the calibre of students nominated.
The PwC Scholarship will be conditional on satisfactory academic performance and the development of a mutually satisfactory relationship between the scholarship recipient and PwC, resulting from University summer holiday employment.
PwC has the right to withdraw support at the beginning of each academic year if these conditions are not met. It may turn out a selected PwC Scholarship winner does not match the culture of PwC, in which case PwC also has the right to withdraw the scholarship.
Recipients are obliged to make themselves available for holiday work from the end of the third year of their degree (or penultimate year of study for degrees longer than four years) as part of our established Summer Intern Programme. It is anticipated that as a result of developing a relationship, recipients may wish to seek permanent employment with PwC.
Should you apply for more than one grant or scholarship associated with your university study, acceptance of the PwC Scholarship is dependent on mutual acceptance by PwC and other scholarship providers. A PwC Scholarship may not be accepted in conjunction with another corporate scholarship.
