Local Government and Infrastructure Matters
The ongoing impact of the Global Financial Crisis has added significant pressure on Councils to restrain the growth of general rates. This pressure has been exacerbated by a number of factors, including: pressure from the government to focus on core services; reduced income from development contributions; and the devastating impact of the Christchurch earthquakes.
Tough times are driving innovation, service and organisation redesign and rationalisation. It is also a time for greater and better collaboration across local government.
Our goal in publishing this series of articles is to highlight some of the options and opportunities relating to infrastructure funding and service delivery that are available to Councils.
