PwC Foundation Charity Relay 2019

The PwC Foundation is hosting an invitation only 100km charity fund raising relay on Friday 22 February 2019, which will involve teams from organisations from all around the Wellington region.

Starting out front of the new PwC Centre on Wellington’s waterfront, participants will make their way over the 100kms to Martinborough.

This relay is for everyone – you don’t have to be a high performing athlete or a marathon runner to participate in the PwC Foundation Charity Relay. The relay course is designed to accommodate anyone, of any ability. This event is all about participation, having fun on the day and raising those worthwhile dollars for each of the chosen charities.

Not only does the PwC Foundation Charity Relay provide a fun-filled experience, the event provides a unique opportunity for all employees of your organisation to participate and is an excellent way to use your volunteer day leave (if applicable) – whether it’s helping with fundraising efforts leading up to the event date, helping co-ordinate team members or by participation on the day.

PwC Foundation Charity Relay

The history of the PwC Foundation Charity Relay

The first PwC Foundation Charity Relay event was held in 2015. The 2015 relay raised over $92,000 for The Neonatal Trust, Wellington Free Ambulance and Ronald McDonald House Charities New Zealand. Following on from the success of the first relay, the second one in February 2017, was even bigger and brighter! We were delighted to include one more charity partner in 2017 – Life Flight Trust. Over $160,000 was raised with 34 teams participating.

Course overview

This 100km relay will involve a largely ‘off-road’ run from Waterloo Quay, through to Te Marua. From here each team can choose to either have runners or mountain bikers complete the 18km Remutaka Incline trail to Cross Creek, before an on-road relay which will take runners to Martinborough.

To increase participation we have incorporated two shorter legs, where teams can elect to have walkers to complete these legs. Teams will have to comply with some mandatory safety requirements, but other than those requirements, there is flexibility as to how teams complete the relay. We suggest that teams comprise between 10 and 16 people. We have divided the 100km relay up into 15 legs.

The end event

The PwC Foundation Charity Relay 2019 will finish at Te Kairanga Wines, Martinborough. At the conclusion of the relay we invite teams to partake in the prize giving, share their experiences and achievements with team mates, other organisations and the charity partners. Before heading back to Wellington there will be refreshments, entertainment and plenty of opportunity to relax after the day’s event.

Fundraising - A chance to make a real difference!

We wish to raise $250,000+ to support the extraordinary work of Wellington Free Ambulance, Ronald McDonald House Charities New Zealand and Life Flight Trust. All these charities are committed to supporting families and communities when they are most in need. We believe by partnering with Wellington organisations, we can reach this target to help support our charity partners to continue to make a difference… one step at a time.

Working together as an organisation, your team will be expected to raise $5,000* per team, which will be distributed amongst the three charities.

We have set up a fundraising campaign page on Givealitte. Here you can capture your team’s individual fundraising, track how much you are raising and promote your fundraising activities.
