Chris Baldock

Partner, Employment Law, PwC Legal

Chris leads PwC Legal’s employment law practice in New Zealand and is a key member of the firm’s multidisciplinary Workforce team. He has extensive experience advising organisations on all aspects of employment and health and safety law. He is passionate about bringing together his legal knowledge and his understanding of business to help his clients navigate New Zealand’s unique and nuanced employment law landscape. Chris and his team are able to deliver pragmatic, highly commercial legal advice that is seamlessly integrated with PwC’s traditional, non-legal service offerings across the wider Workforce team.

Prior to joining PwC, Chris worked in the employment team of a top-tier national law firm. During his career, he has advised some of New Zealand’s largest and most well-known employers in both the private and public sectors (including forestry, education, pharma, aviation, retail, automotive, television and radio, agritech, and financial services). Chris’ expertise covers the full gamut of workplace legal issues, including statutory compliance, restraints of trade, disciplinary and performance matters, M&A due diligence, complex restructuring, Holidays Act compliance, collective bargaining and industrial action, disputes and litigation, and regulatory investigations and prosecutions. Chris’ team works closely alongside Workforce experts from across the PwC network, providing a truly end-to-end service-offering to clients.

With a background in commercial litigation, Chris has appeared regularly in the Employment Relations Authority and the courts. He has previously been recognised in the Legal 500 global directory as a ‘Next Generation Labour & Employment Lawyer’.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys spending time with his family. He likes to keep fit - which helps him keep up with his kids and their numerous sporting and weekend activities.
