Our scholarships

We have two types of scholarship for talented Kiwi students.

  • PwC Scholarship: this is to support students who are experiencing financial and/or personal hardship.
  • Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu Scholarship: for talented Māori rangatahi.

What do the PwC and Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu scholarships include?

  • $7,000 towards your tertiary studies (fees and course related costs) over the course of your degree.

  • A PwC mentor for the duration of your tertiary studies (Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu Scholarship recipients will be matched with a mentor from the Manukura Māori Business team).

  • An opportunity to apply for a paid Summer Internship.

  • Access to business networks at our social and scholarship events.

  • The opportunity to learn about what we do behind the scenes at PwC.

Who is eligible for the PwC and Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu scholarships?

Applicants should be:

  • A New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

  • A final year student at any secondary school in New Zealand.

  • Intending to study a degree that is relevant to a PwC business area.

  • Affiliated to an iwi or hapu if applying for the Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu Scholarship.

  • Experiencing financial and/or personal hardship if applying for the PwC Scholarship.

Here are some preparation tips for your application:

  • Get your CV ready. Don’t forget to add all of your extracurricular activities, e.g. work experience, sports/school awards, volunteer work you do for your community, your marae or whānau etc.

  • Have your senior school academic transcript ready.

  • If you’re applying for the PwC Scholarship you’ll need to be ready to answer a question on financial and/or personal hardship.

  • Before you submit, make sure the information you’ve provided is correct and that you’ve included the required documents.

Once you’ve submitted, you’ll get an automatic email to let you know your application has been received.

How do I support an applicant through this process as a teacher, parent, guardian or friend?

Before you support someone with their scholarship application, please check whether they meet the eligibility criteria (see the ‘Who is eligible’ tab).

Here are a few tips on how to support an applicant:

  • Proofread their CV.

  • Encourage them to talk about their community involvement, extracurricular activities, leadership and teamwork experiences etc.

  • Help to reassure them if they’re not selected for a scholarship: it’s still a huge achievement that they applied and it’s great preparation for applying to us later (e.g. for our Summer Internship or Graduate Programme).

  • Make sure the applicant provides accurate and current contact details. If an applicant is struggling to provide this information then please contact us - nz_pwc_scholarship@pwc.com

I am a Year 12 student, but will be starting degree-level studies next year. Am I eligible for one of the scholarships?

Yes, provided you meet our other eligibility criteria:

  • You’re a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

  • You’re intending to study a degree that is relevant to a PwC business area.

  • If applying for the Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu Scholarship then you’re affiliated to an iwi or hapu.

  • If applying for the PwC Scholarship then you’re experiencing financial and/or personal hardship.

How will I know if I’m receiving a scholarship?

All eligible applications are carefully reviewed, and shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview.

Other applicants will be informed via email of the outcome of their application.

What happens if I change tertiary institution?

Moving from one New Zealand tertiary institution to another won’t affect your scholarship, but you do need to keep us informed if you move.

What if I apply for and receive another scholarship?

If you apply for more than one grant or scholarship associated with your tertiary study, acceptance of a PwC scholarship is dependent on mutual agreement by PwC and other scholarship providers.

A PwC scholarship may not be accepted in conjunction with another corporate scholarship. This will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Can I apply if I have left school and I’m already studying towards a relevant degree?

PwC Scholarships are only open to students completing their final year of high school (this could include Year 12 - see question above).

Are the scholarships only available to students studying accounting?

PwC is not solely an accounting firm; we have a broad variety of teams who serve our clients' needs. Take some time to find out where you fit.
