Ben Coulter

Ben is passionate about helping businesses make financial sense of an uncertain future. As leader of the Actuarial Services team at PwC New Zealand, his team uses data, mathematics, statistics and risk modelling techniques to help clients understand what may lie over the business horizon, then value and manage any associated financial and non-financial risks. 

With over 20 years of experience, Ben has previously held industry roles in product development, pricing, valuation and capital management across both life, health and general insurance. He qualified as an actuary in 2008, joining PwC in 2016. 

Ben has extensive experience helping clients with insurance valuations, pricing and capital management. He is the actuarial lead for NZ IFRS 17 in PwC New Zealand and involved in IFRS 17 working groups and task forces across Australasia. Ben has worked on many different engagements, from assurance to advisory and M&A, and has built and reviewed financial and stochastic models for financial services organisations. Ben has performed statutory actuarial responsibilities and advised on prudential supervision matters in the financial services sector. He has also worked on general insurance valuations for complex events such as the Canterbury earthquakes. 

Ben is married with two sons. He enjoys watching his sons’ various water sport pursuits and you’ll often find him volunteering poolside on the weekends.
