Privacy in Aotearoa New Zealand: what to expect in 2023

As we enter the final few weeks of 2022, we consider the key data protection and privacy trends for Aotearoa New Zealand in 2023 and beyond. 

  


Trends

Driven by events no one could have foreseen, in the recent years leaders have pushed their companies and themselves beyond their comfort zone: out of the office to remote workplaces; into the cloud; along chains of supply that are nearly completely digital. And with each new venture has come new cyber risks.

PwC’s 2023 Global Digital Trust Insights survey shows that, in the year ahead:

Executives

are concerned that the leverage of mobile devices as an attack pathway will increase by 41% in 2023

are concerned about business email compromise/account takeovers

of large organisations expect an increase in Operational Technology attacks

of security and IT execs expect a further rise in ransomware attacks

said that cybercriminals are the biggest threat, followed by sabotage from hacktivists* (48%), insiders (44%), and competitors (42%)
