Facts on Tax - Wednesday, 29 Nov 2023 - 9.30am - 12.00pm (NZDT) (2.5 hours)

Following the election, the new Government is expected to start work on enacting the tax policies that they campaigned on. Tax policy expert Sandy Lau will cover the key changes that you need to be aware of.

Trusts taxation experts Louis McLennan and Kate Caldwell will provide an overview of the Government’s proposed increase in the trustee tax rate to 39%, and will also canvass the practical implications arising from this change and expected taxpayer responses.

GST update: Jamie Ward and Nigel Jemson will cover the practical implications of recent key GST reforms and technical publications from Inland Revenue. This will include changes to the rules for assets and expenses with a mixed taxable / non-taxable use, the principal purpose test for goods and services under $10k, and the GST treatment of directors’ fees.

Jarrod Pike will present some case studies covering recent FBT/PAYE changes which will include the tax challenges associated with remote working arrangements, the tax exemption for accommodation expenditure for employees on limited duration projects relating to rebuilding or recovery in areas impacted by North Island flooding events and the FBT exemption for bicycles/e-mobility devices.
